When drive-away is suitable
The vehicle makes the journey under its own power.
A driven movement can be an efficient way to move roadworthy stock between dealerships, auction sites and customers. It is not the right choice for every vehicle. The booking must accurately describe its mechanical condition and the legal requirements that apply.
MotorRelay does not provide trade plates or motor trade insurance. The independent driver must hold and maintain the documents required for the work they undertake, and the dealer should review the verification information available before selecting them.
- Use driven movement only where the vehicle can lawfully and safely complete the journey.
- Declare warning lights, known faults, limited fuel or charge, access restrictions and special instructions.
- Use a suitable transporter or recovery arrangement for non-runners and unsafe vehicles.
- Confirm who is authorised to release and receive the vehicle.

Before a driven movement begins, the driver records the condition requested by the inspection workflow. The delivery inspection then creates a second timestamped point of reference.
This does not remove the need for insurance or proper incident handling. It gives the dealership and driver a shared factual record when somebody later asks whether a mark, missing item or warning light was already present.
- Exterior and other required inspection photographs remain attached to the run.
- Mileage, fuel or charge and dashboard evidence can be recorded where requested.
- Condition notes and operational messages remain in context.
- A safety issue can be reported from the active run rather than hidden in a separate call.
Driven or transported?
Choose the method around the vehicle—not just the price.
A roadworthy runner may be suitable for a trade plate or other lawful driven movement. A non-runner, damaged vehicle, vehicle with a serious warning or a vehicle that cannot safely complete the route should be carried using appropriate transport or recovery equipment.
The dealer should never ask a driver to continue where doing so would be unsafe or unlawful. Drivers should stop safely and use the incident process if the vehicle develops a fault during the run.
Safety takes priority over completion.
The movement record supports the work, but it cannot turn an unsafe vehicle into a suitable drive-away job.

Does MotorRelay supply trade plates?
No. Drivers offering driven vehicle movements must hold and maintain the trade plates, insurance and other documents legally required for the work they undertake.
Does every driver see every run?
Run visibility and eligibility depend on the driver's approved account, movement method, document status and other platform controls.
What if the vehicle is not roadworthy at collection?
The driver should not begin an unsafe or unlawful driven movement. The issue must be recorded and the dealer may need to arrange an appropriate transporter, recovery or revised movement.
How does the dealer choose a driver?
Drivers can submit applications and quotes. The dealer reviews the available profile, rating and verification information before accepting an application.
What happens if the vehicle breaks down?
The driver should stop safely, report the incident from the run and follow the breakdown and recovery process. Safety and lawful instructions take priority over continuing the journey.
